Role Overview

The Legal Manager will manage legal and regulatory responsibilities, ensure compliance, and provide legal support for operational and business matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on operational and business issues, including compliance and documentation.
  • Draft, review, and vet agreements, contracts, MoUs, and legal documents related to retail transactions.
  • Ensure correctness of loan agreements, sanction letters, mortgage, and security documents.
  • Verify title deeds and ownership of collateral/security for loans.
  • Ensure compliance with RBI, SEBI, and NBFC regulations.
  • Handle legal queries related to lending, recovery, and operations.
  • Manage pre-litigation issues such as disputes, notices, and mediation.
  • Resolve disputes with customers, vendors, and third parties (including arbitration).
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks in lending and recovery operations.
  • Conduct periodic legal process reviews and suggest improvements.
  • Assist in recovery of overdue loans and draft notices under SARFAESI Act or other frameworks.
  • Liaise with government bodies, registrars, and regulators for approvals and filings.
  • Maintain documentation for audits and inspections.
  • Conduct legal/compliance training for internal teams.
  • Collaborate with business teams, external counsel, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 10 years in non-litigation legal work in NBFC; at least 5 years in team handling.
  • Education: LLB from a reputed law school.

Required Skills

  • Banking and NBFC regulations, RBI guidelines, SARFAESI Act.
  • Property law, Contract Act, Negotiable Instruments Act.
  • Recovery processes and arbitration.
  • Experience handling legal matters in NBFC/Bank.
  • Strong legal documentation turnaround.
  • Ability to resolve pre-litigation disputes.
  • Compliance and risk management capability.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage deadlines in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
