About the Hackathon
The Code of Law Challenge is a national-level legal-tech hackathon aimed at fostering innovation at the intersection of law, technology, artificial intelligence, and justice delivery. Organised by Rhett Legal in collaboration with Legal Wiki, ISAIL, and the Legal Innovation & Incubation Cell (LIIC), HPNLU, as the Innovation & Incubation Partner, the hackathon seeks to bring together law students, technologists, designers, entrepreneurs, and innovators to collaboratively solve real-world legal and compliance-related problems.
The hackathon features problem statements centered around developing AI-powered contract review systems and open-innovation legal governance tools capable of addressing challenges in compliance, regulatory tracking, legal workflows, policy management, and access to justice.
Participants will be encouraged to build practical and scalable prototypes using open-source technologies, AI models, and interdisciplinary approaches. Beyond cash prizes and internship opportunities, the initiative also aims to create pathways for incubation, mentorship, startup development, and continued engagement within the emerging legal-tech ecosystem.
About LIIC
The Legal Innovation & Incubation Cell (LIIC), Himachal Pradesh National Law University, is a student-driven initiative dedicated to fostering innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and entrepreneurship within the legal ecosystem. The Cell seeks to bridge the gap between law, technology, business, and emerging disciplines by encouraging practical problem-solving and startup incubation.
Through workshops, mentorship, research initiatives, innovation challenges, and incubation support, LIIC aims to build a culture where legal ideas are not merely discussed but transformed into impactful solutions and ventures.

Eligibility
The hackathon is open to law students, technology students, developers, designers, researchers, startup enthusiasts, and interdisciplinary teams interested in working at the intersection of law, technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation. Participants may register individually or as part of a team.
The event is particularly suited for individuals interested in legal-tech, AI governance, compliance systems, contract automation, and justice innovation.
