About the Organisation

Olympian Lakshmikant Pandey Trust is a non-profit organisation established in 2020 in the name and memory of Late Olympian Lakshmikant Pandey by his younger son, Kapil Narayan Pandey.

The Trust is dedicated to promoting social well-being and contributing to the overall development of society. It aims to organise and support social, educational, cultural and community-oriented events and initiatives that contribute to the growth, welfare and betterment of society.

The Trust seeks to carry forward the values and legacy of Late Olympian Lakshmikant Pandey by serving the community and encouraging positive social development.

About the Opportunity

Olympian Lakshmikant Pandey Trust is organising an Online Debate Competition to provide participants with a platform to develop and demonstrate their public speaking, argumentative reasoning, analytical thinking and communication skills.

The competition will focus on a contemporary constitutional and legal issue concerning the independence of the judiciary in India.

Theme / Motion

“Judicial Independence in India: Reality or Constitutional Idea?”

Participants may choose to speak For or Against the motion and must clearly declare their stand before beginning their speech.

Eligibility

Open to students from all streams and background.

Competition Format

  • Each participant will be allotted 6 minutes in total.
  • 4 minutes will be provided for delivering the speech.
  • 2 minutes will be provided to answer a question from the judges.
  • Each participant will be asked one question by the judges based on their speech or the debate.
  • Participants must ensure a stable internet connection, working microphone and camera, and a suitable environment for participation.
  • Participants must participate independently. Assistance from another person, impersonation or unfair means during the debate is strictly prohibited.
  • Participants must join their allotted meeting on time.
  • The preliminary rounds will be conducted on 24 and 25 November 2026.
  • A total of 10 preliminary meetings will be conducted, with 5 meetings on 24 November and 5 meetings on 25 November.
  • Participants will be divided into slots of 25 participants each.
  • 2 participants from each preliminary meeting will qualify for the Final Round.
  • A total of 20 participants will qualify for the Final Round if total of 250 registration are made else open to changes.
  • The Final Round will be conducted on 26 November 2026.

Judging Criteria

Participants will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  1. Body Language – 20 Marks
  2. Topic Clarity – 10 Marks
  3. Content – 10 Marks
  4. Language Command – 20 Marks
  5. Time Management – 10 Marks
  6. Etiquette – 10 Marks
  7. Answering Skills – 20 Marks

Total: 100 Marks

The judging will consider the quality of arguments, subject knowledge, logical reasoning, clarity of presentation, rebuttal ability, response to the judge’s question and overall confidence.

Prizes

The competition offers cash prizes to the top rank holders:

  • 1st Prize – ₹2,000
  • 2nd Prize – ₹1,000
  • 3rd Prize – ₹500
  • 4th Prize – ₹250
  • 5th Prize – ₹150
  • 6th to 10th Rank – ₹100 each
  • 11th to 20th Rank – ₹50 each
  • 21st to 30th Rank – ₹25 each

Certificates

  • E-Certificate for all participants
  • Rank holders will receive an E-Certificate of Merit along with the Award.
