Applications are now open for the NITI Aayog Internship Programme 2026 for the February batch. This internship offers students and young researchers a valuable opportunity to gain direct exposure to public policy formulation and governance at the national level.

About NITI Aayog

NITI Aayog is the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India. It plays a central role in driving economic development, promoting cooperative federalism, and supporting evidence-based policymaking. The institution is chaired by the Prime Minister of India and comprises senior Union Ministers and policy experts.

About the Internship

The internship scheme is designed to engage meritorious students with the various Verticals, Divisions, and Cells of NITI Aayog. Selected interns will work closely with officials and policy teams on ongoing projects and research initiatives.

Duration: Minimum 6 weeks; maximum 6 months
Certificate: Issued only after successful completion of the internship period

Purpose of the Programme

The objective of the internship is to provide short-term exposure to young academic talent while enabling NITI Aayog to benefit from innovative ideas, research inputs, and analytical support.

Scope of Work

Interns may be involved in:

Policy research and analysis
Preparation of briefing notes and reports
Drafting policy papers and background documents
Empirical and data-based studies
Assisting teams in policy formulation and evaluation

This programme offers interns an opportunity to understand the functioning of the Government of India and contribute meaningfully to developmental and policy initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate Students

Must have completed or appeared in the second year / fourth semester of a bachelor’s degree
Must have secured at least 85% marks or equivalent in Class 12

Postgraduate Students / Research Scholars / PhD Candidates

Must have completed or appeared in the first year / second semester of their programme
Must have secured at least 70% marks or equivalent in graduation

Recent Graduates / Postgraduates

Candidates awaiting admission to higher studies may apply
Must have secured a minimum of 70% cumulative marks
The gap between the declaration of final results and the start of the internship should not exceed six months
