About the Competition

The Kerala Law Academy Law College Negotiation Competition marks the inaugural edition of the institution’s effort to promote and strengthen essential lawyering skills among students. This competition is designed to simulate real-world negotiation scenarios, enabling participants to develop and demonstrate their abilities in communication, problem-solving, strategy building, and client representation.

This event aims to create a platform where students can experience practical, client-centred negotiation in a structured and professionally judged environment. By engaging with complex fact situations, teams will learn to strike a balance between cooperation and assertiveness, explore creative solutions, and work towards mutually beneficial outcomes.

Through this competition, the Kerala Law Academy Law College aims to foster a culture of constructive dialogue, ethical advocacy, and collaborative dispute resolution skills essential for modern legal practice. The competition welcomes participants from diverse institutions and invites them to showcase their competence, adaptability, and professionalism.

Eligibility

The competition is open to all Law Colleges / Law Schools / Universities, Departments of Law, and Management Colleges. The registered contestants must be full-time or part-time students of Law/Management Colleges. Students doing post-graduation in law and students undergoing correspondence courses are not eligible to participate in the competition.

Team Composition

  • Each participating team will consist of two eligible students from the same university, a Client, and a Counsel.
  • The overall composition cannot be altered at any time after registration. The negotiating pair cannot change their roles.
  • All participants will be assigned a code by the Organising Committee, which must be strictly adhered to.

Competition Format

  • The competition shall be held in Hybrid mode.
  • Preliminary Round is scheduled virtually on the 21st of February 2026.
  • Semi Finals and Finals are scheduled on 7th March 2026 (On Campus)
  • If any one or more team member/s back out or fail to attend any round, the entire team will be disqualified.
  • The participants are not allowed to use their real names during the session/round and must ensure that they have a stable internet connection during online rounds. The video must be kept live throughout the session. Participants are required to join the online round 30 minutes before the scheduled start time. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a penalty.
  • The participants must remain seated according to the assigned code and their respective roles.
  • The session will consist of two pairs of Negotiators representing both sides of the Problem engaging in the Negotiation process.
  • Each round will have a set of problems and Confidential Information for each side.
  • No private caucus is allowed; communication must be audible to all.

How to Register?

All the interested institutions are requested to provisionally register by sending an email to 1stklanegotiationcompetition@gmail.com. The subject of the email should be “Provisional registration –1st KLA Negotiation “on or before 25th January 2025, Sunday (25.01.2026).

Fee

Registration Fees: Rs. 1750/- per team for the Preliminary round. Teams qualified for Semi Final rounds are to pay an additional Rs. 3000/- per team (including food and accommodation).

Awards

  • Winners: ₹20,000/- + Trophy+ Certificate of Merit
  • Runner up: ₹10,000/- + Trophy +Certificate of Merit
  • Best Negotiator: ₹5000/- +Trophy + Certificate of Merit
  • E- Certificate: An e-certificate of participation will be issued to teams competing in both rounds of the preliminary stage.
