About the Institution

The Kerala Law Academy Law College (KLA), Thiruvananthapuram, warmly invites law students across India to participate in the 35th Edition of the Kerala Law Academy National Moot Court Competition, one of the oldest, most respected, and academically rigorous moot court competitions in the country.

With a legacy spanning over three decades, the competition stands as a symbol of professional advocacy, ethical lawyering, and high-quality legal scholarship.

In 2026, the event proudly returned to its fully offline format, offering students the complete experience of courtroom advocacy, peer interaction, and campus engagement at KLA.

Kerala Law Academy Law College (KLA), established in 1966, stands as one of the premier legal education institutions in India, widely recognized for its academic excellence, rigorous training standards, and contributions to legal scholarship. Affiliated to the University of Kerala and approved by the Bar Council of India, KLA has produced generations of distinguished advocates, judicial officers, academics, public administrators, and policy leaders across the country.

Over nearly six decades, the Institution has built a reputation for:

  • Strong academic credentials with UnderGraduate Courses (B.A LL.B, B.Com LL.B, B.Sc IT LL.B, BBA LL.B), Post Graduate Courses (LL.M. (International Law & Administrative Law) , MBL, and doctoral programmes (PH.D. in Law).

The Kerala Law Academy Moot Court Society, the organizing body of this competition, is known for conducting some of the most structured and professionally judged moot court activities in India. The annual National Moot Court Competition, now in its 35th year, is the Institution’s flagship event attracting participation from top-tier law schools across India.

About the Competition

Initiated in 1990 and conducted uninterruptedly since, the KLA National Moot Court Competition is widely recognized for its exceptional academic standards, strong judging panels, and fair evaluation system. The finals have traditionally been adjudicated by Hon’ble Judges of the High Court of Kerala, reflecting the stature and credibility of the event.

The 35th edition centres around a contemporary and thought-provoking moot problem titled: Soubhahiya Mariam v. State of Dharmaraj & Others

A socio-legal challenge involving constitutional rights, reproductive autonomy, and the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021, offering participants an opportunity to argue novel legal questions and complex statutory interpretations

Eligibility

  • Open to all BCI-approved law colleges, law schools, and universities in India.
  • Students enrolled in 3-year LL.B. or 5-year integrated LL.B. programmes are eligible.
  • Multiple teams per institution are permitted with official approval.

3 Members per Team: Speaker 1, Speaker 2, Researcher

To honour outstanding advocacy and research excellence, the following prizes will be awarded:

  • Winner: Trophy + Certificate + ₹1,00,000 Cash Prize
  • Runners-Up: Trophy + Certificate + ₹50,000 Cash Prize

  • Competition Dates: 11–14 February 2026

Registration Fee

  • ₹6,000 per team – without accommodation
  • ₹7,500 per team – with AC dormitory accommodation

  • Mode: Offline
  • Venue: Kerala Law Academy Law College Campus, Peroorkada, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala
  • Participants will have access to the campus’s academic facilities, library resources, and designated practice spaces.

  • Quarter-Finals
  • Semi-Finals
  • Grand Final Round
  • A structured Researcher’s Test will also be conducted to evaluate research skills, statutory interpretation, and argument development.
